Domaine Jules Métras 

The Domaine Jules Métras has quickly become one of the most exciting and sought-after estates in the Beaujolais, representing a new generation of vignerons dedicated to authenticity and minimal-intervention winemaking. Jules Métras is the son of the renowned natural winemaker Yvon Métras, whose work helped establish Beaujolais as one of the spiritual homes of the natural wine movement.

After learning alongside his father and gaining experience both in the vineyard and in the cellar, Jules Métras began producing wines under his own label in 2014. His vineyards are located primarily in the prestigious cru Fleurie, where old vines of Gamay grow on the region’s characteristic granite soils. These terroirs, known for producing some of the most elegant wines of Beaujolais, provide the perfect foundation for Jules’ precise and expressive style.

Viticulture at the estate follows the same philosophy that made his father’s wines so respected: organic farming practices, meticulous vineyard work, and very low yields to ensure optimal grape quality. In the cellar, Jules Métras adopts a minimalist approach to winemaking. Grapes are harvested by hand, fermentations rely on indigenous yeasts, and the wines are vinified with very limited intervention and minimal sulfur. Traditional semi-carbonic maceration, typical of the region, is often used to preserve the purity and vibrancy of the fruit.

The resulting wines are remarkably expressive and refined. They typically reveal bright aromas of cherry, raspberry, and wild berries, often accompanied by delicate floral notes and subtle spice. On the palate, they combine freshness, silky texture, and vibrant energy, offering both immediate pleasure and impressive finesse.

Produced in very small quantities, the wines of Domaine Jules Métras have become highly sought after by collectors, sommeliers, and lovers of natural wine around the world, embodying the elegance and vitality of modern Beaujolais.
