Vin de Pays du Gard Domaine de Roc d'Anglade 2023
In Langlade, on the outskirts of Nîmes, Rémy Pédréno continues with the 2023 vintage a journey that has established his estate as one of the most admired references in the Languedoc. Founded in 1999 across ten hectares farmed biodynamically, Roc d'Anglade is rooted in calcareous marl soils with a clay-silt and silica composition, whose structure draws irresistible comparisons with the great terroirs of Burgundy. North-facing plots channel a freshness and tension into the wines that is rare under the Mediterranean sun — a signature that Rémy Pédréno cultivates with an openly declared passion for the great Pinot Noirs of Burgundy.
The 2023 is built around a blend of 40% Carignan, 50% Mourvèdre, Grenache and Cinsault, completed by 10% Syrah. Harvesting is done entirely by hand, vinification carried out with 100% whole clusters in open-top vats without extraction, using indigenous yeasts and gravity racking. The wine is then aged for 18 months on fine lees in oak foudres and demi-muids, with only the lightest filtration before bottling.
The result is a wine of medium body and remarkable tension, in the lineage of the great 2021. The colour is a limpid garnet with ruby highlights. The nose, delicate and reserved, gradually unfolds on blackberry bramble, florals, gentle spice and red fruit, with a peppery edge reminiscent of the Northern Rhône. On the palate, freshness is immediate, the texture elegant, the tannins powerful yet of extraordinary finesse. The finish is long, vibrant and mineral.
The 2023 vintage confirms once again Roc d'Anglade's place at the very top of the Languedoc. Decant for 30 minutes before serving and pour around 16°C, alongside a slow-braised bull stew, feathered game, or a strong-flavoured cheese.
