Vin de Pays du Gard Domaine de Roc d'Anglade 2022
In Langlade, a small village a few kilometres from Nîmes, Rémy Pédréno founded Domaine Roc d'Anglade in 1999 on an exceptional terroir. A former commercial director who reinvented himself as a winemaker out of pure passion, he has produced wines of rare distinction since his first vintage in 2000 — wines that now rank among the finest in the Languedoc and in France as a whole. The estate covers around ten hectares farmed organically, planted on clay-silica soils over calcareous marl, a structure that draws striking comparisons with the great terroirs of Burgundy. The plots face north, lending the vineyard a structural freshness that is precious under the Mediterranean sun.
The red wine is built on very old vines of Carignan, Mourvèdre, Grenache, Cinsault and Syrah. The winemaking approach is radical in its restraint: 100% whole clusters, open-top vats with no extraction, indigenous yeasts, gravity racking. Ageing in oak foudres, unhurried and precisely controlled, preserves the fruit without ever imparting a woody character.
The 2022 vintage, shaped by warm conditions yet sublimated by the winemaker's exacting standards and the terroir's natural freshness, delivers a wine of disconcerting complexity. The colour is a deep garnet with ruby highlights, limpid and radiant. The nose is delicate and reserved, gradually revealing aromas of crushed strawberry, morello cherry, violet, gentle spice and garrigue, with hints of liquorice and woodland undergrowth. On the palate, the entry is silky and fresh, the structure elegant, the tannins assertive yet remarkably fine. The finish is long, mineral and weightless.
Awarded two stars in the Bettane & Desseauve Guide 2025, this Roc d'Anglade 2022 has exceptional ageing potential — twenty years and beyond. Serve around 16°C alongside a prime cut of beef, braised duck with figs, or small game.
